This project began after students submitted responses to the prompt a fresh perspective. I reviewed dozens of images of what students saw when they looked up, and when they looked down. Their images prompted me to examine my own photographic practice and the way I perceived spaces I was occupying.
In looking closely at the places where I stand, I am studying the shifts in color, contrast, and texture that emerge. My position changes and emphasizes or compliments what I am choosing to focus on. These photographs are an exercise in observation, a reminder to stand still, be attentive, and record what is revealed through that focused attention. This series documents a process as much as it points to a subject. It reflects my interest in how our bodies occupy space and how our presence alters our relationship to each place we move through.
